Governor General Sir Henry Hardinge had a body guard unit of native cavalry. The unit saw action in the Sikh War. As is the way of things suitable figures are available in 25/8mm but not in 15mm. I decided to have a go at converting some figures to make the unit.
The figures here are from Irregular. I’ve added cords and plumes made of Green Stuff to their peak-less shakos. The cords require a certain deftness of fingers and I found it best to put them in place and leave to dry before adding the plumes. I added epaulets to the officer figure who was originally a British Dragoon trooper and removed his carbine. I must thank the fellows at Lead Adventure Forum who thrashed out the uniform details of this unit and came up with contemporary images.
The plumes are hanging forward as the horses are at the
walk. Had they been at a trot or gallop I'd have modelled them streaming
back. Here's a squadron of them with Sir Henry Hardinge.
Very nice. I am more and more tempted to get stuck into this period.
ReplyDeleteThanks Trebian. There's lots to recommend it. Close fought battles, brilliant uniforms and diverse troop types. Ian at Irregular has also greatly expanded his 15mm Sikh War range.
ReplyDeleteA fine body of men!
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray. Loved the pic's of your Killiecrankie game.
