Dragoons and Hussars were newish additions to Western League of Augsburg Armies. Dragoons were very useful despite what you might sometimes read. Mobile and with firelock fire power they could reach parts of the battle field that others couldn’t, at least not as quickly. Betimes they could act as cavalry although they had to be lucky to successfully take on the real thing.
These ones are Regiment Pomponne, selected purely on grounds of their striking uniform. They are my second such unit and as usual they are modelled mounted and on foot.
The figures are from Gladiator mounted on Irregular miniatures horses. The original Gladiator ones being simply gigantic beyond consideration.
The Hussars were fast and deadly but by no means super soldiers. The trick was to use them to disrupt and stymie enemy activities. In the war of outposts, they excelled.
These ones are from Essex and I like them. At this stage they were not uniformed but rather similarly attired. They will be my sole unit of Hussars.
I'm mustering my brushes for the French elite cavalry next. There will be lots of lace and fancy uniforms.
