The action is heating up.
The Sikh Dragoons push back the 3rd Dragoons and take the opportunity to about face and retreat. The British cavalry start to look for the Khalsa flank and rear.
Gough launches Smith’s two brigades on the right. The 31st go straight in with the bayonet. A close range Khalsa volley and fire from skirmishers prevent them closing. Instead, they return fire.
On the left the Horse Artillery have come up to support Mactier.
Macaskill’s Brigade rallies and slowly advances and is again checked by artillery fire. The 80th are gone beyond recall.
The Sikh guns are now hitting Smith’s first Brigade checking their advance.
Mactier’s cavalry have finally driven off the Gorchurra and seek the Sikh flank.
Smith orders two battalions into column and they assault the Sikh position with a two to one advantage. One Khalsa battalion is forced back. A second Khalsa battalion stands in reserve and volleys the 31st out of existence with its first fire.
Smith has penetrated the Sikh line and still has 4 fresh battalions to feed into the battle. In the centre Gough is bringing up guns and advancing with 3 battalions. Macaskill’s Brigade reduced and battered can still provide a further 2 battalions.
Field of Battle is really doing the job here.
